H.E.A.T BOARD MEETING Tuesday OCTOBER 15TH 2013


Board meeting October 15th meeting started at 4:30 after the last conference class.  In attendance was Mark Stinson, Steve Stewart, Boyd Powers, Byron Long, Howard Mann, Terry Eaton, Bill Hills and Josh Wood.   


AGENDA ITEMS

A.    discussion of fall 2013 training,

Discussion started with the current training, everyone agreed this conference was a success and the all of the classes were received very well with high reviews.  Attendance was adequate and actually well attended with 48 total.  Whelen Class had high attendance and the transfer to 911 customs for the hands on portion was well received it was mentioned that if we hold this class again which we will we will need to discuss the room they had at 911 customs with twelve students in this class the room for the technicians was limited.  Other than that the rest of the training went well.  As always the Overland Park Fire Training center was excellent and the board stressed their appreciation for the use of the facility, Mark Stinson will send out thank you letters to the staff at the OP training center.   

B.    Discussion of spring training, location, trainers

Discussion started with Mark Stinson asking Bill Hills to clarify that the next training in April will be back at the OP training center, Bill confirmed that it will be here to allow for utilizing Spartan trainer for this area and expose their excellent training classes to HEAT technicians in this area that might not have the chance to travel.   

The April 2014 training will be April 15th 16th and 17th.   Mark Stinson will send a letter to EVT commission announcing those date as soon as we finalize the Spartan trainers so EVT commission can list those in their newsletters.  Bill Hills said he would stay in contact with Spartan Trainer and hopefully hear back from them at the end of October when Spartan concludes their annual conference.

Briefly discussed Factory Motor parts and talking to them about giving us a list of Motorcraft and AC Delco training they can provide.  Mark Stinson will stay in touch with Factory Motor parts and will report back to the Board as soon as they can supply a list of training classes to see if we can utilize them in April.
   
Josh Wood mentioned that Pierce Aerial class would be good to have back and all agreed, it was mentioned that maybe we could start working on bringing them in for the October 2014 training.  All Agreed.
 
Byron Long talked about future training and possibly hold them close to or in the Jefferson City Fire Training center, they have a facility that could accommodate our conference and the apparatus available that we could use for the hands on classes, like the Pierce aerial.   Byron will talk to the people in Jefferson city to see if they would be receptive to holding our conference at their sight.

C.    EVT of the year,

Discussion of EVT of the year was started and all agreed that Conrad Fire really stepped up to help with this endeavor.  We discuss having a lunch for the staff at Conrad fire to show the HEAT association appreciation and all agreed that we should do that.  Bill and Mark will work to get that organized and the date will be announced.
 
We discuss the future of the EVT award and Bill mentioned that we can all contact any fire chief and suggest that they nominate there technicians that are worthy everyone agreed that was a great way for nominations.  Howard Mann mentioned that we should write an article and send to APWA to talk about the EVT of the year award and describe the training conference that we put on.  Mark Stinson said he would work on an article and would stay in touch with Howard to submit that.  Howard also mentioned that we should open this up to the Venders and there EVT technicians.  Everyone thought that was a great idea.
